Our HistoryFirst Broadcast 19th June 1996 The inspiration for a local radio station was the idea of Ken Emberson and Ruth Morgan both having experience in Fremantle Community Radio. In March 1993 "York Looking Ahead" a public meeting in the York Town Hall endorsed that a community radio station be a priority for York, out of some 26 projects. On June 19th 1996(6YCR)York FM began broadcasting on weekends with a test licence. A full community broadcast licence was then given and York FM is going strength to strength with memberships, programmes and sponsorship. York FM has over 25 volunteer presenters sharing their own collection of music with listeners in a diverse number of programmes. With the transmitter on Mt Bakewell in York Western Australia, being the best location in the region, York FM is now experiencing a rapid increase in listeners from the whole Avon Valley and beyond. 101.3 York Fm now broadcasts 24 hours a day 7 days a week and aims to cater for the whole community with a variety of programmes to suit all tastes and proving to be a great asset to York. |
